I really enjoyed the movies, so I read the first book and now aiming to finish the second book before the new movie comes out in December. 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑟 𝑊𝑎𝑟𝑠 kind of stole their whole thing from 𝘋𝘶𝘯𝘦… just saying."

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐨, 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 - "I wanted to get into the groove of reading this year and found 𝘗𝘦𝘯 𝘗𝘢𝘭 by J.T. Gessinger and I could not put it down. It was dark, complicated, and filled with mystery. If you love intense chemistry, complex characters and a story that will completely surprise you. Pick this book up!"

Strong organizations are built by bringing together people with different experiences, perspectives, and expertise. At CIL, we’re fortunate to welcome four new and returning members to our Board of Directors.

Joining the Board are Tracey Walker, an experienced nonprofit leader and former Chief Executive Officer of Journey Found, Inc.; Michelle Augustyn, Business Advisor for the Connecticut Small Business Development Center and Co-founder and Chief Storyteller of Storyline Chocolates; Barbara Pilarcik, former Executive Director of Pathlight and an Expert Witness specializing in ADA litigation and consent decrees, who is returning to the CIL Board for a second term; and Carmelo Pawelzik, Senior Manager, Global Real Estate at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., who has joined both the CIL and The Community Innovation Lab Boards of Directors.

Each brings a unique combination of experience, perspective, and expertise that will strengthen CIL as we continue to grow and expand our work and mission. We’re grateful to have them on board and look forward to all that’s ahead!

The Opportunity House community residence in Cheshire, CT, completed in April 2018, was developed with the needs of its residents in mind. The residents had been living in a split-level home that was no longer a safe environment for them. Opportunity House, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was founded in 1980 by a group of parents who wanted to create lifelong homes for their children on the autism spectrum. With CIL’s development assistance, the single-family ranch was renovated into a six-bedroom community residence.

What better way to celebrate with your team than a trip to Block Island?

It's been another big year at CIL, and we took the opportunity to celebrate the summer (and our accomplishments) with our annual outing to Block Island. With many members of our team working remotely, it's always fun to get together in person to recharge and reflect.

Take a look at a few photos from the day, from the ferry ride to our traditional stop at Ballard's Beach Resort, along with some swimming, dinner at One BI Steak & Oyster House, and plenty of good company along the way.

Last week, the CIL team came together at Max Fish in Glastonbury, Connecticut, to celebrate our Vice President / Chief Information Officer Eric Plummer. Eric has been with CIL for 25 years, ensuring a safe and stable IT infrastructure for our organization. He's a person our team can count on, not just because of his technical expertise, but because of the way he approaches every challenge—with patience and humility. He's the kind of leader who turns mistakes into learning opportunities and never stops learning himself.

The celebration also included a few words from Maria Green, who reflected on what it has meant to work alongside Eric for more than two decades. Their longstanding partnership is a reminder that one of CIL's greatest strengths is the team we've built together over the years.

Creating spaces that strengthen the ideas of community, independence, and accessibility is at the heart of what we do. Completed in 2022 in partnership with Incompass Human Services, this new construction project was designed to support individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), with thoughtful features that help residents live as independently as possible. From extra-wide hallways and integrated ceiling lifts to accessible kitchen spaces with roll-under work surfaces, every detail was designed with the people who would one day call these their homes.

In late 2025, members of the CIL team had the opportunity to return for a walkthrough. Take a look at a few photos from our visit and see how thoughtful design can help created a place where residents can live, connect, and thrive.
