Clear to close feels like the finish line. It’s actually the most important week of the entire process.
Here’s what not to skip in the final 7 days:
Do not touch your credit. No new cars, no furniture on credit, no new credit cards. The lender pulls your credit one more time before closing, and a new account can kill your loan.
Verify your wire transfer instructions by calling the title company directly at a number you looked up yourself. Wire fraud is real, it’s targeted, and it’s devastating.
Complete your final walkthrough and confirm every agreed-upon repair was actually done. The house should be in the same condition as inspection day, not worse.
Set up your utilities to transfer on closing day, not the day after. You don’t want to move into a dark house.
Bring your government-issued ID. And don’t make any large deposits or withdrawals this week, keep your bank account boring until the keys are in your hand.
Keep your phone on. Your lender or title company may need you in the final 48 hours.
