Today I'm celebrating the pets who greet us at the door, keep us company, and make every house feel a little more like home.

The ones who bark a little too loudly, snuggle a little too close, and love bigger than you could ever imagine.

The ones who zoom around the house like maniacs, have absolutely no concept of personal space, and never leave your side... even when you kind of wish they would. 😉

Because at the end of the day, it's the people and the pets who turn a house into a home. ❤️

Downsizing is more than moving into a smaller home; it’s about creating a home that fits your life today.

For many homeowners, the next chapter means less maintenance, more freedom, and a space designed around what matters most.

Whether you’re thinking about moving closer to family, simplifying your routine, traveling more, or finding a home that better fits your lifestyle, having a plan can make the process feel much easier.

Here are a few things to consider as you start your downsizing journey. 🏡

Start with your lifestyle - How do you want to spend your time? Do you want less maintenance? More convenience? What's important to you?

Decide what comes with you - What do you use everyday? What has sentimental value? What can be donated or gifted and what can be thrown away? Your adult children don't want their artwork from when they were five ;)

Find the right location - Do you want to be closer to family? Have more walkability? Be closer to shopping, healthcare, and activities?

Prioritize what matters - Main level living? Lower maintenance? Community Amenities?

The past several days have been heartbreaking for so many of our neighbors across Hamilton, Marion and Madison counties. Homes have flooded, families have been displaced, and communities are facing a cleanup and recovery that won’t happen overnight.

As a Realtor, I spend a lot of time talking about what makes a house a home. But moments like this are a reminder that home is also the community that surrounds us — the people who show up with a meal, a donation, a cleanup crew or simply a helping hand.

If you need help:
Indiana 211 is coordinating information about shelters, emergency housing, food, cleanup assistance and other flood-related resources. Dial 211 or visit Indiana 211.

If you want to help:
❤️ Hamilton County: The Hamilton County Community Foundation has established a Flood Relief Fund, and local organizations are coordinating donations and volunteers.

❤️ Marion County: The Indianapolis Foundation has established an Indianapolis Flood Relief Fund to support organizations providing immediate assistance and long-term recovery.

❤️ Madison County: The Anderson Flood Relief Fund is providing assistance to individuals and families affected by the flooding, and local organizations are collecting needed supplies and clothing.

❤️ Central Indiana: The American Red Cross is providing disaster relief and shelter assistance throughout affected communities.

Please remember that needs are changing quickly. Before dropping off physical donations, check with the organization to see what is currently needed.

Whether you give money, donate supplies, volunteer your time or simply share reliable resources, there are so many ways to help our neighbors through this.

Indiana is really good at showing up for one another. Now is one of those times. ❤️
