Carnegie is back home in the Atlantic! 🐢

The released its first rehabilitated sea turtle of 2026 this month! A green sea turtle named Carnegie who spent months recovering on Jekyll Island.

Carnegie's story: Found on Cumberland Island in November 2025 in rough shape with multiple tumors, barnacles, and leeches. The team at Georgia Sea Turtle Center treated him for fibropapillomatosis and provided months of care. On April 8, he was released at Oceanview Beach Park with a crowd cheering him on as he returned to the ocean.

This is what makes Jekyll Island special. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is the state's only sea turtle rehabilitation facility, and visitors can watch this life-saving work happen in real time. Daily tours, interactive exhibits, and behind-the-scenes access.
