FLORIDA KEYS REALTORS: A WIND MITIGATION UPDATE TO KNOW

If you’re working with buyers or sellers, this is one to keep handy:
Florida’s new Wind Mitigation Inspection Form is now required for inspections performed as of April 1, 2026.

For Florida Keys homes, inspectors may be documenting things like:
🏠 Roof covering & roof age
🔨 Roof-to-wall connections
📐 Roof geometry
🪵 Roof deck attachment
🪟 Opening protection
📋 Supporting documentation- supporting photos required

The new OIR-B1-1802 (Rev. 04/26) is more comprehensive and requires additional documentation to support the mitigation features reported.

Why does this matter?

A properly completed wind mitigation inspection can help a homeowner document qualifying hurricane-resistant features for potential insurance discounts.
