Dolly's words on death, her death 👇
If you’re reading this with tears in your eyes, then honey, I want you to dry them when you can.
Don’t spend too much time thinking about the day I left this world. Think about all the days I was lucky enough to be in it.
I got to sing my songs. I got to tell my stories. I got to laugh until my sides hurt, love with my whole heart, make plenty of mistakes, wear more rhinestones than any sensible woman probably should, and live a life bigger than that little girl in the Smoky Mountains ever could have dreamed.
And most of all, I got to share that life with you.
What a gift that has been.
I always believed we’re only passing through this world, and while we’re here, our job is to leave a little something good behind. Maybe it’s a song. Maybe it’s a kindness. Maybe it’s helping somebody who needs a hand. Maybe it’s simply making another person smile on a day when they didn’t think they could.
So please don’t remember me with sadness alone.
When you hear one of my songs years from now, turn it up.
Sing along — even if you can’t carry a tune in a bucket.
Tell somebody you love them.
Forgive somebody if you can.
Help a child learn to read.
Be a little kinder than the world expects you to be.
And every now and then, put on something that sparkles for absolutely no reason at all.
I came from a little cabin in Tennessee with big dreams and a whole lot of faith. Somehow, those dreams carried me farther than I ever imagined.
But every road eventually leads us home.
So if today you’re grieving because I’m gone, just remember: love doesn’t disappear when somebody leaves. It stays in the stories we tell, the songs we sing, the laughter we remember, and the goodness we pass along to somebody else.
I hope I gave you a little of all of those things.
I had one beautiful ride.
And if I could leave you with just one last thought, it would be this:
Don’t spend your precious life mourning yesterday so much that you forget to love today.
Keep dreaming.
Keep laughing.
Keep loving one another.
And keep a little sparkle in your heart.

🌄 SEVIER COUNTY WEEKEND UPDATE | AUGUST 28–30

It will be a different kind of weekend around Sevier County as our community continues to remember Dolly Parton. ❤️

🌸 Remembering Dolly

Flowers, notes and other tributes continue to surround the Dolly Parton statue at the Sevier County Courthouse in downtown Sevierville.

Visitors are also remembering Dolly at Dollywood, which remains open as a place for families to enjoy the music, laughter and memories she wanted the park to continue providing.

If you're visiting either location this weekend, expect more people than usual stopping to pay their respects.

💜 Relay For Life Saturday

Sevier County Relay For Life takes place Saturday in downtown Sevierville.

Drivers should know that Court Avenue will be closed from Commerce Street to Joy Street, along with a portion of Bruce Street, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday.

If you're headed through downtown, give yourself a little extra time or choose another route.

☀️ Weekend Weather

Friday has the better chance for a scattered thunderstorm, while Saturday looks like the better day for outdoor plans. Another afternoon storm is possible Sunday.

Temperatures will still be warm, with highs around the upper 80s. Keep the water handy if you're spending the day walking around Gatlinburg, Dollywood or the Smokies.

🚗 Weekend Traffic

Expect the usual late-summer weekend traffic along the Parkway, especially through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Saturday afternoon and evening will likely be the busiest period.

Downtown Sevierville will also have the Relay For Life closures Saturday, so plan accordingly.

🎡 Coming Next Week: Sevier County Fair

The Sevier County Fair begins Tuesday, September 1 and runs through Labor Day, September 7.

One planning note: there are no midway rides Tuesday. Rides begin later in the week.

🌲 Smokies Tip

If you're heading into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, an early start is still your friend. Getting into the park before the late-morning traffic builds can make a big difference, especially for popular areas and trailheads.

❤️ And if you're visiting Sevier County this weekend, you may notice a community that's still grieving while also celebrating someone who meant an incredible amount to this place.

Be patient with each other, drive safely, and have a good weekend in the Smokies.

Remembering Dolly Parton 🌸💛🦋

We wanted to take a moment today, along with the rest of the world, to remember the wonderful life of Dolly Parton. Dolly holds a special place in hearts around the world, but especially here in East Tennessee as she was born and raised in Sevier County.

Dolly exemplified what it means to be a kind and generous human. She also taught us to not take life so seriously! While we mourn the loss of this wonderful woman, let us not forget the legacy she left behind. Not only was she an incredible advocate for lending a helping hand to humans in need, but she also was passionate about conserving the natural resources of our wonderful Smoky Mountains. In honor of Dolly, may we all be a little bit kinder to all of the living things around us!

The latest real estate news

Headlines highlighting rising foreclosures have a way of stirring up 2008 flashbacks. But the data says not to panic.

We’re nowhere near what happened back then.

In the first half of 2008, foreclosures were filed on over 1.3 million homes. The first half of this year that number was less than 250k.

Now, seeing any homeowner go through this is hard. There’s no arguing that.

But just looking at the market as a whole, we’re a long way from crash territory – even with the recent uptick. So, don’t let the headlines stir up fear.
