Monticello, circa 1910 - This substantial stone and tile-roof residence still stands today at 102 S. Bluff Street. The home was built in about 1908 for Thomas W. O'Connor (1868–1936), the son of Irish immigrants. He rose from humble beginnings to become one of White County’s most influential business and civic leaders. An entrepreneur, banker, and Democratic Indiana State Senator, O'Connor made local history in 1909 when he was elected Monticello’s first mayor following its incorporation as a city.
