We work hard to restore homes and make homes affordable AND beautiful but there’s something that makes us angry about housing issues in our city. Can we rant for 2 minutes?

We see housing companies charging extra if someone has bad credit. Now, credit is a rigged game against hard working people and to charge extra when folks are working hard or rebuilding after difficult times. Whew! 🤯🥵

Friends, we believe there’s a better way to work together!

We have $0 upfront fees. Always have. The only time we run a background and credit check is AFTER an applicant has been approved on character reference, paystubs, bank account, and budget. We just ask for honesty upfront. Guess what happens? People are honest.

No declines for credit score.

Let that sink in.

People are more than one number on a page which they aren’t even allowed to know the scoring. 😤

People are accountable for choices, absolutely, but we believe in helping guide those good choices rather than making it harder!

☑️ We offer a free financial self-care class for our renters.

☑️ We offer a first time home buyer classes and rent with the option to buy homes.

☑️ We have free split rent plans and a referral program for a lower deposit.

We do this because it’s simply the right thing 🎤💥

We WANT our renters to succeed financially and they do! We are so stinkin’ proud of our renters accomplishments.

They are fighting for stability after job loss. They are just starting out and breaking generational poverty. They are having their first baby and working hard to raise that sweet babe right. They are single dads raising a son solo to be a responsible adult (and he is!) They are single moms with high energy kiddos who have smiles that light up the room. Every walk of life and each important.

Real people. Real stories. Real victories.

This is the part of the Running Creek story that’s honestly hard to tell but it’s a vital part of our mission.

The guy in the ball cap is Andy. He’s the brother of one of our founders and he lost his battle with addiction to fentanyl New Years Day 8 years ago.

The grief hit the family hard.

But from that deep grief, came a mission.

His younger brother decided to focus on neighborhoods being tormented by addiction issues. He said, “we can bitter OR we can do something about it.”

So we did.

His father, now 84, works hard with maintenance issues.

His younger brother heads up acquisitions and renovations.

Nieces and nephews have joined in painting, renovation, and lawn care.

And the mission has grown.

Block by block. House by house.

Of course, not every house was that kind of situation, but we found a way to restore in such a way to value people first.

We offer those caught in addiction a way out and work closely with The Refuge Ohio

We offer rentals to those coming out of addiction who need someone to give them a chance.

We offer rent to own for those who want to own their home and create a whole new life!

And we offer those dealing drugs some hard but hope-filled choices. (Sadly, none have accepted that help yet but we still believe and still offer.)

Then, something happened that we NEVER saw coming.

Other people started to believe in bringing light to the addiction issues our community faces.

It’s coming friends!! Light always pierces the darkness.

If you ever wondered why we design homes with natural light? Well, we believe light warms and heals.

If you’ve ever wondered why our homes look different, feel different? It’s because every inch is restored with this story in our hearts.

If you’ve ever thought about why we stage, restore, and care deeply about affordable or entry level apartments, this story is our why.

And if you’ve ever wondered what you can do to change the world for good? Our amazing group of renters and future homeowners know and share our love for these homes. Just by being on the same side of the table, living their daily lives, caring and communicating - the real hero’s ARE our renters who make these houses into light-filled homes!!
