Grandparent’s Day hits a little differently this year. My husband and I both lost our grandpas recently, and we’re missing them a little extra today.
Growing up, I spent every summer at my grandparents’ house in Washington state—swimming in their pool, picking raspberries, and making memories with all of my cousins. We also took lots of camping trips and explored national parks in the “Happy Van.”
My grandma and grandpa owned that home together for more than 40 years, and my grandma still lives there now. They were both avid gardeners and meticulously maintained their property, inside and out.
Looking back, I realize they taught me so much more than I probably understood at the time. They instilled in me a pride of homeownership, the importance of taking care of what you have, and what it means to be a good steward of a home.
I’m so grateful for all the summers, all the adventures, all the memories, and all the little things that became a part of who I am.
Love you, Gramps. I’ll always be your Sq**rt 🫶
