Change — The Joy of Getting Dirty Again

It’s funny how change works. Things that once were are no more… and what is now has a whole new kind of fun.

Growing up, once I hit adolescence, I lost that desire to play in the dirt. Somewhere along the way, I didn’t want to get my hands dirty anymore. Unknowingly, a small part of my soul went quiet.

But as I’ve gotten older (and self-proclaimed wiser), I’ve changed again. These days, I’ve been spending more time wrenching on my tractor, fixing the quad, sharpening chainsaws, and cultivating the land. And with every bit of grease and soil under my nails, I’ve found something deeper—joy (and some bloody knuckles).

If I ain’t gettin dirty; I’m probably having less fun.

When equipment breaks down on the farm, everything stops.

You feel the time slipping, the costs rising, and your motivation deflating.
That one broken part a bolt, a belt, a bearing can throw off an entire day’s rhythm. It’s frustrating, humbling, and a reminder that progress isn’t always linear.

But when you finally fix it, when the machine fires back up, the work starts flowing again, and that sense of momentum returns, it’s pure joy.

That moment isn’t just relief; it’s perspective. The breakdown teaches patience. The repair reignites purpose.

Whether it’s farming, business, or life, the setbacks will slow you down. But getting things back on track, that’s where you find gratitude, grit, and growth.
