Stop by Open Nursery Day at the High Plains Environmental Center on Friday, July 3 and explore a selection of plants grown to thrive in Northern Colorado's climate. Native plants can help support pollinators, conserve water and bring lasting beauty to your landscape. 🦋

Whether you're refreshing a garden bed or starting a new project, you'll have the opportunity to shop in person and take your plants home the same day.

Open Nursery Day takes place from 9 am to 12 pm at the High Plains Environmental Center.

Great gardens grow with a little help from the community. 🌱

Join the High Plains Environmental Center on Saturday, June 20, for a morning of hands-on stewardship in the native plant gardens. Whether you're an experienced gardener or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, this volunteer opportunity is a great way to support local wildlife habitat while connecting with fellow nature lovers.

Volunteers may assist with planting, weeding, mulching, watering and other seasonal garden projects that help these spaces thrive throughout the year.

Be sure to bring a water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather.

Teens and adults are welcome, and children may participate alongside a parent or guardian.

The soundtrack of summer returns to Centerra next month! 🎶

Sounds of Centerra is back Fridays in July, bringing four unforgettable nights of live music to Chapungu Sculpture Park. This year's theme, Through the Decades, takes audiences on a musical journey from 50's rock and roll to 90's and 2000's favorites, with plenty of iconic hits in between.

Each free concert features themed activities, photo opportunities, classic car displays and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

Plant of the Week: Showy Milkweed 🦋

A favorite among pollinators and a must-have for supporting monarch butterflies, Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) brings both beauty and ecological value to the landscape.

Its clusters of soft pink, star-shaped blooms appear throughout the summer, providing an important nectar source for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. As a native perennial, Showy Milkweed is also the host plant monarch caterpillars rely on to complete their life cycle.

With its drought tolerance, distinctive flowers and wildlife benefits, this Colorado native is a standout addition to pollinator gardens and naturalized landscapes alike.

Join naturalist guide Sheila Webber from the High Plains Environmental Center on June 20 for a morning of birdwatching among the park's ponds, trees, Zimbabwean soapstone sculptures and beautiful Colorado native plants.

Whether you're an experienced birder or simply looking for a peaceful way to spend a summer morning outdoors, this guided walk offers a unique opportunity to experience nature right here in Centerra.

💧 Water in the morning or evening and consider drip irrigation
🌾 Use mulch or other ground covers to help soil retain moisture
🌿 Choose native, regionally adapted or xeric plants that are suited to Colorado's climate

There's something special about starting the day on two wheels. 🚲

Everybody Bike Day returns to Loveland on June 24, bringing together riders from across the community for a morning of movement, connection and exploration.

Along the route, participants can stop at stations hosted by local businesses, community partners and city departments for giveaways, route maps and a little extra encouragement.

The day begins at the Mobility Hub with coffee, breakfast and the chance to practice loading your bike onto a City bus before heading out to explore the City of Loveland, Colorado - Government .

The Jeffers Barn has had many residents over the years. The barn owls might be our favorite. 🦉

For nearly two decades, the historic barn High Plains Environmental Center has served as a nesting site for generations of barn owls.

What many visitors don't see is the care that goes into preserving both the structure and the habitat around it. Thanks to the efforts of staff, volunteers and community members, the Jeffers Barn remains much more than a piece of agricultural history.

Their efforts have done more than preserve a historic building. They've created a thriving home for barn owls, a place for environmental education and a lasting connection to Northern Colorado's agricultural roots.

A reminder that when we preserve places, we create opportunities for wildlife to thrive too.

Plant of the Week: Palmer's Penstemon 🌸

Palmer's Penstemon (Penstemon palmeri) is one of the few penstemon species known for its sweet fragrance, adding another layer of interest to its tall spikes of pink, white and lavender blooms.

Blooming from spring through summer, this drought-tolerant native can reach up to six feet tall and serves as an important food source for native bumblebees and other pollinators. Its ability to thrive in dry conditions makes it well suited to Colorado's climate and a valuable addition to the region's landscapes.

Through the ongoing stewardship of the Centerra landscape team and the High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC), native species like Palmer's Penstemon help create beautiful spaces that support local wildlife and celebrate the natural character of Northern Colorado.
