As we enjoy our beautiful Florida beaches this holiday weekend, here’s a small reminder that can make a BIG difference for our nesting sea turtles and hatchlings.
Before you leave the beach: 🏖️ Fill in any holes you’ve dug
🏰 Knock down sandcastles and smooth the sand
🗑️ Pick up all trash, chairs, toys and belongings
Holes and sandcastles may be fun for us, but they can become dangerous obstacles for tiny hatchlings trying to make their way to the Gulf.
Enjoy the sunshine, the sand and time with family and friends — and when you leave, leave only footprints. 👣🐢💙

As we celebrate this Fourth of July weekend with family, friends, cookouts, and beach days, remember that Florida is the lightning capital of the U.S. A beautiful day can turn dangerous in minutes.
🌩️ If you hear thunder: ✅ Get off the beach immediately. ✅ Leave the water. ✅ Seek shelter inside a building or a hard-top vehicle. ✅ Wait at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before heading back outside.
Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a storm—even if the sky above you still looks sunny.
