With a blast of arctic air upon us its a good time to talk about a potentially costly issue known as ice damming. Ice damming occurs when moderate heavy snow buildup melts during the day and then refreezes when temperatures drop overnight. After a few days of this it's common for the melted water and ice to work up under the shingles until water enters the attic which can cause costly damage inside.

With more wet weather in the forecast lets take a look at a common issue in (or in this case outside of) your home. Water intrusion is a common issue, and in some cases preventable with some minor changes to your downspouts. Extending your downspouts 4-6 feet away from the house along with the proper grading can reduce or in some cases eliminate certain water intrusion issues

Having the proper traps under your sink(s) is crucial. Without a proper trap toxic sewer gas can make it way back up through the drain and into your home. Ensuring the proper trap with the drain at the proper height creates a seal in the trap to prevent gases from making their way back up.
