Today was one of the hardest move-out inspections I've experienced in my career.
I've been in Property Management since 1997, and for the first time, I found myself standing in a home overwhelmed with emotion. I never expected to leave a property and sit in my car crying, but that's exactly what happened today.
The level of filth, the overwhelming odors, and the conditions inside the home were unlike anything I've encountered in nearly three decades of managing properties. Bugs were crawling on the walls, the smell was unbearable, and the condition of the property was heartbreaking to witness.
This post isn't about shaming anyone. It's about the reality of what property owners, property managers, maintenance teams, and vendors sometimes face behind closed doors.
A home is more than walls and a roof. It requires care, maintenance, and respect. When that care is absent for an extended period, the damage can be extensive, costly, and emotionally difficult for everyone involved.
Property management isn't always lease signings, happy move-ins, and handing over keys. Sometimes it's walking into situations that remind you why inspections, communication, and accountability matter so much.
Today was a reminder that after all these years, this profession can still affect me deeply.
