After a morning of apple picking, this board turns the haul into an easy afternoon snack.

What you need:
- A mix of apple varieties, sliced
- A sharp cheddar and a soft brie
- Caramel sauce for dipping
- Toasted walnuts or pecans
- A few dried apricots or figs
- Crackers or thin baguette slices

How to build it:
Slice the apples last so they don't brown while you're setting everything else out, tossing them with a little lemon juice if you're prepping ahead. Place the cheeses on opposite ends of the board, then fan the apple slices between them. Add the nuts and dried fruit into the gaps, and set the caramel in a small bowl in the center for dipping.

It's the kind of board that disappears fast.

A porch that looks put together for fall doesn't take a big budget, just a short list of the right pieces.

What you need:
- A few pumpkins or gourds in mixed sizes
- A bundle of cornstalks or wheat
- A pot or two of mums
- A seasonal wreath for the door
- A lantern or string lights for evening

How to put it together:
Start with the mums, since they add the most color for the least effort. Group the pumpkins in odd numbers near the door rather than lining them up, and lean the cornstalks against a porch post or railing instead of setting them flat. Add the wreath at eye level, and finish with a lantern or string lights so the display still works after dark.

It's a small project, and it changes how the whole entrance feels.
