🏡 “7% mortgage interest is WILD!!!”

I saw this comment and thought… this is a teaching moment. 💜

Is 7% higher than the 2–4% rates many people remember from a few years ago? Absolutely.

But is a 7% mortgage rate historically unheard of or automatically a reason not to buy? No.

Some of us got spoiled by those extremely low rates! 😄 For many years, buyers purchased homes with mortgage rates in the 6%, 7%, 8% range—and sometimes MUCH higher.

Here’s what I tell my buyers:

Don’t just shop the interest rate. Shop the entire opportunity.

What is the monthly payment?
Can you comfortably afford it?
Are you buying the right house at the right price?
Can you negotiate seller concessions or a rate buydown?
Does homeownership make sense for YOUR financial situation?

And remember: a mortgage rate isn’t necessarily forever. If rates decrease later and the numbers make sense, refinancing may be an option. But the house you love at the price you can afford may not still be available.

The question isn’t simply, “Is 7% high?”

The better question is:
“Does buying this home at today’s rate make financial sense for me?”

That’s where having an experienced real estate professional AND a knowledgeable lender matters.
