In an age when developers are buying properties and too many historic buildings are being lost through “demolition by neglect,” it’s great to see a property like this being preserved and appreciated. This is an amazing building with a long and interesting history
The promised facelift in progress on the Port Colden Manor, in the little village of Port Colden, Washington Township, Warren County New Jersey.
The Greek Revival Port Colden Manor was built as hotel in 1835, during a time that the little village was growing along with the newly opened Morris Canal. Although some are concerned the building might collapse, it is in fact constructed of stone, but covered in stucco.
Foolish comments called for it's demolition citing that it would collapse, because people thought it was entirely made of wood.
James Hunter purchased the property, and faced heavy scrutiny for several years while different permits and such held up progress.
As we can see now, the badly deteriorated columns are being replaced, and it won't be long before the Port Colden Manor is once again a beautiful sight to behold.
