18 months ago I got double hip surgery and couldn’t walk, 8 months ago I randomly decided to run over 10 miles for the first time since I was 25, and said why not attempt a bucket list, an ? 4 months ago I bought a triathlon bike; 3 weeks ago I bought a wetsuit. I typically write out my yearly goals every year… multiple years in the past 15 years an Ironman has been on that list, but my body never cooperated.
Yesterday, I completed in 12:08. Naturally I was fourth in the swim (shoutout ), and thus got passed by - wait for it - 1,300 Europeans on the bike (maybe should have attempted more than one long bike beforehand)- and somehow brought it home on the marathon. It was easily, by far, the hardest physical and mental thing I’ve experienced in my life so far. And it was truly so awesome.
An epic crew of people helped me in this wild adventure, including but not limited to… for getting the body in shape, for the same, .nyc for epic training and motivation, and my epic support crew, and for putting up with my bu****it.
