It is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! CPU celebrates, empowers, and encourages people with disabilities to take part in job training sessions and vocational placement programs!

"My day is both structured and open ended, familiar and surprising. It begins before I even arrive at work at a CP Unlimited residence in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood. I wake up thinking about the people I support and if they slept well and what they want to accomplish for the day. I might even remember that one of them has a birthday party to attend, and I’ll already be thinking about how much fun they will have."

What is growing on Staten Island? Basil in our new hydroponic indoor garden and outside we have everything from swiss chard to eggplant, lavender, mint, tomato, and (of course) peppers!

Here is to the caretakers, planters, cultivators, and pruners!

“We want to grow because we believe we have a mission that others can truly benefit from,” said Joseph M. Pancari. “No matter what part of New York State you’re in, there’s something that CP Unlimited offers the community.”

“There’s a lot of work that still needs to be done,” he said. “We’re in the process of putting up a building in Brooklyn to help people who are aging out of the foster care world to get a good start in life, vocational training, and some behavioral health services. We’re looking to put up senior housing in Staten Island as well. There are just so many good folks who need good services that we’re able to provide, and that’s what I think the dinner is going to really celebrate.
