During , I’d like 2 commend the vital work of women medical professionals bringing vaccinations to communities across Afghanistan. Vaccines save lives and promote a healthy, long life, overcoming preventable disease like polio, measles and more.

در جریان هفته جهانی معافیت می خواهم از کار و فعالیت حیاتی زنان متخصص که در راستای تطبیق واکسیناسیون در سراسر افغانستان تلاش می کند، تمجید نمایم. واکسین حیات انسان‌ها را نجات می دهند و ضامن زندگی سالم و عمر طولانی انسان‌ها میگردد و همچنین در مقابل امراض قابل وقایه مانند فلج اطفال،..سرخکان و امراض دیگر معافیت ایجاد می‌کند.

10 years ago today, Anne Smedinghoff was killed in Zabul Province. She was escorting Afghan journalists to cover a book distribution event w/ the local governor & other U.S. officials. As I reflect on her memory, I send my heartfelt condolences to her family & all who loved her.
I hope she is proud of our work supporting free media and education for all Afghans. Anne was passionate about both, knowing the significance of these contributions to the bright future Afghans deserve. (2/2)

Emotional conversations with Afghans – saw fire in the eyes of Afghan women who want to return home to Afghanistan but say they are afraid they will be forced into marriage and denied education and work. They want their rights guaranteed.
We want this for them as well. I urged these women to stay strong so that when they do return to Afghanistan, they can contribute to a future Afghanistan that respects the rights of all Afghans. Deeply grateful to ’s Urban Cohesion Hub for supporting Afghans in Pakistan.

It’s good to be back in Pakistan after almost 30 years - too long! I am continuing the listening tour in Islamabad this week.

Hope to hear more!خوشحالم که بعد از دو سال دو باره به ترکیه بر می گردم. من با دوستان دیرینه ام همچو نبیله مصلح دو باره ارتباط بر قرار می نمایم. روز گذشته بحث خوبی با نبیله مصلح در مورد اهمیت تعامل و فعالیت ، گفتکو و زمینه تحصیل در افغانستان، داشتم. به امید گفت وشنود های بیشتر!
خوښ یم چې له دوو کلونو وروسته ترکیې ته راستون شوم. زه د خپلو پخوانیو ملګرو لکه نبیله مصلح سره بیا اړیکه لرم. پرون مې له نبیله مصلح سره په افغانستان کې د تعامل او فعالیت، ډیالوګ او د پوهنې د ډګر د اهمیت په اړه ښې خبرې وکړې. د نورو خبرو او اوریدلو په هیله!

As part of our commitment to help the Afghan people, the U.S. & our partners worked with international banks to transfer payments from Afghanistan’s central bank to European printing companies so new banknotes can be produced to replace worn-out banknotes.
This step will address one aspect of Afghanistan’s liquidity crisis and will improve the Afghan people’s ability to purchase food and other necessary items.

I share their concerns and their hope. Look forward to a return trip to continue these conversations. These listening tours demonstrate the U.S. is still working hard for the American & Afghan people. They also validate the principle that Afghans everywhere have a stake in their country’s future.

According to World Food Program in Afghanistan, 18.9m Afghans do not have enough to eat. The U.S. worked with between January & June 2022 to provide food to nearly 21 million people, and has continued to support the farmers who are the backbone of Afghanistan’s food supply.

DYK that excluding people with disabilities from the economy results in a loss 7% of GDP in some countries? During , we affirm the value that persons with disabilities add to the workplace and every sphere of life. Our societies and our economies are stronger when everyone can contribute.

It was a pleasure to join the U.S. English Teaching program closing ceremony & to congratulate the students! I encouraged them to use their new English teaching skills to mentor other Afghan refugees & to help build a community as they settle in to their new homes.
