As of August 2023, 23 US states have taken steps to recognize gold and silver as legal tender. Eleven states have already implemented bills recognizing gold and silver as legal tender, including Utah, Louisiana, West Virginia, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Indiana. In addition, Arkansas has recently passed a bill that allows citizens to use gold and silver bullion to pay off debts. Other states, such as Arizona, Wyoming, and Texas, have introduced legislation to recognize gold and silver coins as legal tender. Proponents of the legislation argue that gold and silver are more stable forms of currency, as their value is not subject to the same fluctuations as fiat currency. More states are expected to follow suit.
