“People flock to museums like never before, so they must have their motives. But when it comes to art, people get strangely afraid to ask too directly what it all might be for, because everyone except you might know the answer already. It’s perhaps too obvious; it’s perhaps too complicated; the result is an awkward silence.” - School of life

Art makes us hopeful
Art makes us less lonely
Art rebalances us
Art helps us appreciate stuff
Art is propaganda for what really matters

Oh another Throwback Thursday? Don't forget about the good ol' record player. I bet you didn't know Thomas Edison created this one! One of the first few phonographs that were invented. Defined as a device that can record sound and play it. It actually looked quite different from what we see today. Swipe left to see the original.

Do you have a vinyl player? What are your fave records? Tag your friends who love vinyls.

Both our March Maker series interviewees have a fashion angle manifested in different ways. Natasha S Mwashighadi is a unique fashion designer who pays homage to her Kenyan roots through her work as a first generation Kenya-American in her family while Malaika Temba first began fashion design industry and branched out into a unique journey of making visual art with textiles.

There are many ways in which fashion influences the world - whichever way it presents itself is valid and expansive to the culture.

One of our friends (and favorite writer) Odwa Zamane founder of Future of Fashion SA wrote a thought provoking article for BubblegumClub Magazine about how contemporary Black Hip-Hop culture has influenced luxury fashion.

“But the question beckons, how has Arnault managed to make LVMH the biggest fashion conglomerate in the world within such a fragmented fashion industry?

Furthermore, why are these heritage luxury houses purposefully attracted to a plethora of Black hip hop artists, going so far as to include them in the nucleus of their marketing and advertising campaigns while hip hop as an artistic genre remains overlooked in America?” - words by

We recently visited the NYFW Street show in SOHO featuring Ian Alexander. He is one of our favorite MAKERS as a fashion designer.

He is a self-taught fashion designer with a background in graphic design. Ian bridges the gap between contemporary art and high fashion by making one-of-one pieces and combining raw images with 3-D assets to create surreal landscapes - as noted on fs.formalist.com

We 💜 Ian! Check out his incredible work .studio (on IG)
