Built from rammed earth and bamboo, the project embraces local materials and the surrounding forested landscape, opening its classrooms toward sweeping valley views. Simple yet robust, the architecture forms a sheltered courtyard and a semi-indoor playground that support learning in all seasons. With passive ventilation, deep eaves, and a layout shaped by nature, the school stands as a quiet but powerful response to place, a modest structure with an enduring spirit.

Xi'an International Football Centre's 60,000-seat stadium and training grounds are integral to the ongoing development of football in China. Initiated by the Chinese Football Association and China's national sports development organisations, the new football centre provides facilities of the highest standards to nurture the sport across all levels—from international competition to grassroots community leagues and youth training academies; enabling all generations to gather, play and celebrate football's unifying spirit.

A NASA fleet has spotted the first magnetic switchback near Earth, a zigzag in the magnetic field at the edge of our planet’s shield. The result shows that twists once seen near the Sun also appear in our space neighborhood.

NASA detects first “magnetic switchback” near Earth: an energetic change in your space shield that reveals new solar risks.

The concept of using cannons to blast people (or things) into space has been around since at least the 19th century, when Jules Verne penned the 1865 banger From the Earth to the Moon. In it, some bored artillery engineers build a massive 900-ft (274-m) cannon called the Columbiad. It's stuffed with a 9-ft (2.7-m) diameter capsule for three adventure-seeking astronauts and 20,000 lb of gun cotton to get the party started.

Allow me to preface the title: Longshot Space wants to build a 6-mile-long (10-km) space cannon to shoot several-ton objects into low Earth orbit (LEO). The company has already built a working proof of concept.

Creating fusion energy requires extremely strong magnetic fields to confine and control hydrogen fuel, which is heated to a plasma state several times hotter than the sun’s core.

We live in urban environments where lighting is ubiquitous. We light our homes, offices, hospitals, and factories to keep everyday life running smoothly. But what if all that visible light could be used not only to illuminate spaces but also to transfer information and as a power source?

In the visions of researchers at the University of Oulu, light does far more than illuminate. It provides, among others, a new way to transmit data securely and efficiently, while also offering a sustainable energy source for smart devices.

The scheme features a retractable roof and a movable pitch, allowing it to accommodate both sporting and non-sporting events. The bowl is configured to bring seating as close to the field as regulations allow, with a steep profile intended to enhance spatial intensity. Acoustic performance was a central consideration, with the design aiming to concentrate sound within the stadium while minimizing noise impacts on the surrounding neighborhood.

As technology has advanced—and as land and construction costs have risen—clients increasingly seek systems that are more capital-intensive but also more durable and resilient. Heightened awareness of environmental risks (from coastal storms to wildfire spread) has further shifted preferences. In this context, exposed concrete has become an attractive option for coastal residences: robust in harsh marine conditions, inherently fire-resistant, and capable of precise thermal mass strategies when detailed correctly.

Discover the evolution of beach architecture: concrete's resilience meets the timeless charm of coastal homes in Asia.
