Today the NYC rental market turned upside down. I absolutely hate talking about politics, however given the impact a political decision has had on my industry, my colleagues, and the insane amount of calls and messages I received today, I felt it only right to give my network, clients, and friends an inside look and my perspective on what this means for the NYC rental market and repercussions moving forward. ***make sure to continue onto the comments

What happened:
The New York Department of State (DOS) issued a statement of an interpretation of new laws issued last summer, that as of 2/4/2020 it is illegal for brokers who represent Landlords to charge the prospective tenants a fee and they must collect a fee from their own customer, the Landlord.
Tenants who hire brokers to help them with the process of finding an apartment can still pay their broker a commission.

News outlets everywhere issued Headlines reading “No Fees for NYC Renters”, “Handing Big Win to Renters”, etc. What does this actually mean?

Growing up my perception on “salespeople” was always the sleazy car salesman saying anything to get you to buy a car. Over these past four years, I’ve learned the term “broker” more often than not has the same negative connotation. We’re hoping to change that.

Excited to announce we’re partnering up with my good friend, colleague, and a mentor of mine Jack Elliot Heard Real Estate at Compass to form The Heard | Khedr Team.

I first connected with Jack within my first couple of weeks at Town three years ago as we shared a passion for reading personal development books. Since then, I’ve seen our businesses grow simultaneously and recognized that our business principles, mindsets, and strengths compliment one another to make a powerful Team.

From helping recent grads rent their first apartment in the city, to helping first-time home buyers, sellers, and investors, we cater to all no matter how small or large a budget.
