TCS NYC Marathon #2 in the books! It’s taken me a week full of recovery (cryotherapy/normatec boots) and reflection.
I think most runners get obsessive about post race analysis, trying to find the areas that could have been improved. I’m not sure we’ll ever be completely satisfied with a result, at least not in the first couple days. The huge amount of effort leading up to the race sometimes feels like it doesn’t completely translate compared to previous training runs. In my case, 53 Runs, 52 Hours and nearly 400 miles (90 miles in the rain 🌧️) in this 11.5 week training block.

But a challenging NYC course (5 Bridges and several inclines around the finish) will get the best of you and the 26.2 miles always seems to bring about undiscovered hurdles. That’s what makes it so great and awakens that longing to return and improve. Overall the beauty of the process is it keeps you honest. The result cannot be manipulated. So during the race you have to embrace the moment, soak it in, but also find a way to manage the way your body is reacting and hope to reserve enough energy for the end. In that aspect, I was able to maintain those dynamics better than last years race and in return came up with some decent splits the last couple of miles. All in all I ended up with a 4:06:46 (29 minutes faster than last year) and something to build on. The crowds were electric, the scenes at Lafayette Ave, Bedford Ave and First Ave, gave me life and kept me going. A big thank you to my parents for traveling from Atlanta to participate and my wife for supporting from several locations. Till the next one ✌️

I’m going to miss showing this gem right in my neighborhood. The Inkwell is a boutique building crafted from a converted schoolhouse(c. 1905) with 13 ft. ceilings, loads of character and private outdoor space. Look forward to working in this building again! Link in Bio
