Letter To My Daughter

During this time when Fathers get an honorable mention, celebrated, too strong of a word
Yet, I celebrate your existence, without me, you would’ve never occurred
I provided the seed for your life, now you continue to bloom
My love for you is forever, even while you were still in the womb
I would sing the ABC’S, and “Mary had a little lamb”
I sung on the day you were born, first time I touched your little hand
You are my princess, but no Disney, at times I was tough
I wanted to fix every wrong, and I admit, at times I was much
A new Dad, a new husband, I was doing my best
I had to provide, I had to protect, there wasn’t room for rest
You were my purpose, my reason for life, you were my why
Why I worked so hard, why I wouldn’t quit, why I persevered, why I always tried
And as I watched you grow, from a little girl to a young lady
You remain precious in my eyes, that’s why I still call you baby
You are my pride, my joy, the beauty of my world
You are great, so incredible, much more than a beautiful girl
You are brave, vulnerable, awkward, and funny
You are quiet, shy, adventurous, and clumsy
You are curious, stubborn, smart, and kind
You are creative, imaginative, artistically inclined
You are my daughter, but still, truly your mother’s child
You remain even keeled, and your manners are mild
Please take the best from us both and disregard the rest
Learn from what makes us great, and please discard the mess
Your mother and I, could have been better, but this is where we are
However, this is your journey, you can go anywhere, you determine how far
Find ways to heal from any pain, even hurt I have caused
People will continue to live their lives, you must continue to live yours
So take accountability of your life, while giving glory to God
Giving thanks for the joyful times, and having faith when things get hard
I am so proud of you, and I just wanted to say
That you are one of the two greatest gifts a man could have on any Father’s Day.
