It looks as if Zohran Mamdani’s housing plan is embracing a strategy few expected during his campaign: relying on private developers to help deliver hundreds of thousands of affordable homes.
While the mayor campaigned on publicly financed social housing, his newly released plan leans heavily on rezonings, office conversions and market-rate projects to meet its housing targets. The proposal also builds on several housing reforms enacted before he took office.
