Preserving, protecting & promoting African American music through tuition-free training, live performance & paid opportunities rooted in gospel, jazz, R&B & Harlem’s legacy. Housed in a renovated, attractive, spacious, five story brownstone on 126 Street across from the State Office Building, in Central Harlem, The Mama Foundation is in the heart of the community and in touch with the pulse of the people. Featuring Vy Higginsen's Gospel Choir of Harlem, Uptown Musical Theater Productions, and the award-winning arts education program Gospel for Teens.

Our Mama Foundation Choir will join the float, bringing together voices from our Mama Music Students, Wednesday Sings adult Choir, and the Sing Harlem Choir!

Alumni Tracker and Update! Congratulating Lorna Courtney , now star of Broadway's Rocky Horror Show and alumni of Mama Foundation for the Arts “Gospel for Teens” Training Program. After training at the Mama Foundation’s Artist Development and Training programs, Lorna came back to teach a special musical theatre series to our Mama Music Program students.

Our students learned professional breathing and singing techniques, as well as proper terminology from a mentor who once stood in their shoes.

Thank you Lorna for coming back to give back & providing your guidance!

Open houses for the Fall 2026 Mama Music arts training programs take place September 19 & 26. Students from 7-19 years of age can apply for the tuition free training by audition.
