Is this sculpture bright or somber? Depends how you look at it. Are the clouds puffy or gloomy? Depends how you look at it. I’m choosing to not black out my post today because there are too many things that need to be seen and said. Am I posting all of those things? No. I’m digging into my vault of travel photos because I’ve barely been out of my tiny home since January. Yesterday I spent the day on social media reading, posting, crying, donating, and reading more. Two weeks ago I posted one comment on a ecological and social justice drag queen’s () page to contradict what a racist person was saying that I know to not be true. I am STILL getting angry white people defending the refuted comment as of nine hours ago. Listen to the people on the ground. Listen to people’s lived experiences. Challenge your own unconscious bias. Look up facts and statistics. Please don’t ask POC to explain things to you. I hear this new google thing is a great source of information. Many of you have extra funds. It doesn’t have to be a lot but if we all collectively give a little, it adds up to a lot. Remember when we all collectively paid little attention to racial injustice? Yeah, that added up too. Many of the major bail organizations are currently “well funded” according to their social media and website landing pages. Go to ’s page and listen to what they say. Give directly to black people’s venmo accounts. If you are a black person in need or know someone who is, please post your Venmo in the comments. This is about a communal awakening. Wake. The. F**k. Up. Get out there or stay inside but Do The Work. Have the uncomfortable conversation with a loved one about why that racist joke isn’t funny. To all the protesters out there in my beautiful neighborhood and around the world, thank you. Rest up. Eat well. Take care of your energy. We’re in this for the long haul. ✌️✊
