NYC is making room for Halloween, and this year it’s bigger than ever. 🎃🗽👻

Trick-or-Streets is taking over a record 160 Open Streets and plazas across all five boroughs throughout October, turning neighborhood streets into car-free Halloween spaces filled with trick-or-treating, games, music, face painting, and family activities. 🍬🎶

NYC DOT is also handing out 75,000 pieces of free candy, while new for 2026 are free neighborhood walking tours and Halloween programming outside select public schools. 🧡🍭

Halloween in NYC gets a lot more fun when the dogs are involved. 🐶🎃👻

The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is back on October 17th for its 36th year, bringing thousands of costumed pups and their humans to the East Village. 🐕🧡

The parade is known for its wildly creative costumes, and this year’s limited-entry competition is expected to be just as entertaining.

One of the best parts this year is the focus on adoptable rescue dogs. The parade is partnering with the ASPCA and Animal Care Centers of NYC to spotlight pups looking for homes during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. 🐾❤️

Watching is free, but dogs participating in the parade and costume competition need to register in advance.

NYC Bakery Run might be the only half marathon where the finish line is not the best part. 🥐🏃‍♀️🍰

On October 25th, runners will cover 13.1 miles through Manhattan and Brooklyn, stopping at 10 of NYC’s most coveted bakeries for a free signature pastry at every checkpoint. And yes, you get to skip the lines. 🙌

The 100 available spots are being raffled in pairs, with three pace groups for advanced, intermediate, and beginner runners. The lottery is open now and closes October 14th, so save this one if you want a shot at running the sweetest race in NYC.

Central Park has a new pack of pups, and these ones aren’t going anywhere. 🐕🎨🌳

Camille Henrot: Dogs brings 12 larger-than-life dog sculptures to Doris C. Freedman Plaza at 60th Street and Fifth Avenue. Made from bronze, stone, steel, and concrete, each sculpture has its own shape and personality. 🐶✨

The free outdoor exhibition explores ideas around attachment, loyalty, domestication, and our relationship with dogs, while also drawing inspiration from everything from ancient Egyptian sculpture to cartoons and dog shows.

The exhibition is on view through August 29th, 2027, so you have plenty of time to add it to your next Central Park walk.
