Last week, DCAS and NYC Parks took a massive step forward for our city's clean energy future by officially opening the largest city-operated public EV charging site at Queens' historic Forest Park! ⚡️🌳

We proudly unveiled 10 new state-of-the-art fast chargers, including two ADA-accessible ports. Offering competitive rates between 30 to 35 cents per kWh ensures sustainable transit remains accessible and affordable for all New Yorkers and the TLC drivers who keep our city moving.

Thank you to NYC Parks, Con Edison, Empire Clean Cities, and all our partners for collaborating on this vital community asset. We are incredibly excited to build on this progress and install 34 additional public fast chargers citywide over the next 18 months!

Last week, legendary comics Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, and Ronny Chieng performed on the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry (rechristened the "Snapple Island Ferry" for the night!).

Did you know? Even though this 277-foot boat was an NYC DOT vessel, the auction was actually handled by us at DCAS back in early 2022! It is always so exciting to see how the city's surplus infrastructure finds incredible new lives.

Processing the sale of an iconic commuter ferry so it can become a floating NYC comedy venue is definitely one for the books! 😅🗽

25 years later, as we remember the lives lost on September 11th, we also honor the engine of recovery: the city workers who operated behind the scenes to keep rescue and rebuilding efforts moving.

Within hours of the attacks, standard protocols were replaced by absolute necessity. Here at DCAS, our teams instantly pivoted to emergency procurement, sourcing millions in critical supplies for Ground Zero, from respirators to heavy excavating equipment. Meanwhile, our Fleet mechanics worked around the clock under unimaginable conditions to repair and decontaminate damaged FDNY and NYPD vehicles, partnering to establish emergency fueling stations right at the site so the search wouldn't stop.

But the recovery extended far beyond Ground Zero. To help the thousands of New Yorkers whose livelihoods vanished overnight, the city mobilized the "Twin Towers Job Expos." Over the course of three major fairs in the fall of 2001, hundreds of citywide partners and employers came together to connect displaced workers with tens of thousands of new opportunities, proving that our greatest infrastructure is our community.

It wasn’t just a job; it was a promise to the city. Today, we remember the victims, the heroes, and the quiet resilience of everyone who helped New York City find its footing again. 🤍

We officially cut the ribbon on The Little Apple—NYC’s first-ever free, on-site childcare center for municipal workers right inside the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street!

Inside The Little Apple:

🤑 Free & Year-Round Care: Welcoming 40 children ages 6 weeks to 3 years, putting up to $20,000 back into the pockets of working families annually.

🎨 A 4,000-square-foot facility featuring four bright classrooms, a pantry, stroller storage, and educator spaces—completed by DCAS ahead of schedule and under budget.

🧑‍🏫 Operated by Imagine Early Learning Centers, delivering an evidence-based curriculum focused on healthy development, curiosity, and socialization.

Taking care of New York means taking care of the dedicated public servants who keep it running every single day. This brand-new center ensures working parents never have to choose between a paycheck and quality care for their little ones!
