Argentina's high-altitude Andean and Patagonian regions receive some of the strongest solar radiation on Earth. At elevations approaching 4,000 meters, the thinner atmosphere absorbs less sunlight, allowing solar panels to capture more energy than they would at lower elevations. The cold temperatures also help improve panel efficiency, since solar cells perform better when they stay cool.
Because of this combination of intense sunlight, clear skies, and high altitude, several solar projects in northwestern Argentina rank among the world's most productive.
