Earlier this week I was able to grab a coffee with my old friend and commercial real estate broker, Ron Koenigsberg. Originally, I wanted to meet with Ron to talk about his use of social media and the possibility of collaborating on a project my team and I have been building for commercial brokers over the past year and a half. But when I walked away, that was not the part of the conversation that stayed with me most. What stayed with me was everything else. The conversation was personal, introspective, and informative. We talked about personal struggles, professional highs and lows, and how we each eventually ended up where we are from different career paths. It reminded me that in this business, the most important thing you can do is just be yourself. There is no need to pretend. We are all vulnerable in one way or another, and authenticity always comes through. People know when you are genuine, and that is what makes them want to know you.
Authenticity matters more than image.
