What a story? And what a performance? I picked up a last minute ticket yesterday, front and centre, for last nights performance of ‘Remember this: The Lesson of Jan Karski’. David Strathairn, alone on stage save a few chairs and a table, held our attention for ninety minutes while we silently observed his retelling of Jan Karski’s story. By twist of fate, and in large part thanks to his photographic memory and facility for languages, Karski bore witness to the atrocities of the Third Reich and later relayed these memories to disbelieving leaders in the west. To this day, we find it hard to comprehend, many among us preferring to believe this period to be an anomaly, an abomination. But the writers, director and Strathairn feel there is much we can learn from Karaki’s lesson today. Inspirational and emotionally draining in equal measure, this is a story that needs to be told.

Happy Labor Day!
Did you know the first federal holiday celebrating the hard fought rights of workers, at least here in the US, was in 1894 - right when the Industrial Revolution was at its peak?
But the ‘first’ Labor Day apparently dates back to 1882, when 10,000 or so workers took ‘unpaid time off’ to march from City Hall to Union Square demanding better conditions. In case you were wondering, 12 hour days were normal, as were 7 day working weeks. And let’s not forget that kids as young as 5 were (apparently) part of the workforce back then! I guess it was time for a change. In hindsight, it’s pretty obvious.

I finally stopped off at this little gem on Sackett Street this morning. Great coffee. As a bonus they've transformed their little patch of sidewalk (and inside the cafe) into a cool, inviting garden. What a lovely place to make a pitstop!
If you are looking for more insider tips or a new place to call home, give me a shout.

It’s that day again! International Dog Day. As if we need a day to celebrate our furry, four legged friends? Chip is wondering if cats get this too? Maybe they’re too aloof to care? So treat them with some peanut butter and a nice long walk before snuggling up on the couch for some quality tv time. At least that’s what Chip has planned. What about you?

There’s something special about the light here in the Berkshires. And the greens. It’s just so lush here now. Wispy clouds, soft light and a summer breeze. It doesn’t get better than that.

It's been a month since you left us, so this marks my first Father's Day without you. I still find myself checking the time, wondering if you are up over there in Sydney on the other side of the globe, only to remind myself that I can't call you ever again. I wish I could turn back the clock to say a few kind words, just to let you know how much you mean to me.
Thanks for holding my hand as I took my first steps, and for teaching me to ride a bicycle. You gave me independence. And while you may never have loved the early hours that the job required, I will always be grateful for those times I spent with you in the bakery. The simple pleasure of eating freshly baked bread, straight out of the oven, with a smear of lard and salt, to watch the sunrise and hear the city awaken. The ritual of packing the Bialetti with fresh grounds, and making your evening coffee to get you up in time for dinner. For teaching me to sail and tie knots, to swim and fish, to drive a manual, and to ride a motorbike. You documented our every waking moment and gave me my first camera.
But most of all, you loved me, and you believed in me. You gave me the space to grow and allowed me to become the man I am today.
And for that, I can never thank you enough.

A day at the races… thanks to the folks and in particular for rallying the troops and making the day happen. We had a blast on the autocross track and got to wander through the paddock, as you can see. I could get into this…

It’s Tuesday, which is kinda like Sunday for those in the residential real estate biz. Except that lately, with the spring market in high gear, every day feels like Monday!
Anyway, speaking of spring, here’s some snaps of the gang from our weekend trip to beautiful Bedford, New York. Thanks to Nicola and the team at oHHo for being such wonderful hosts. I’m thinking we’ll be back. Just let us know when.
