Where you buy matters.

Here’s the general idea:

🐓 Oxford & Metamora
Larger rural properties give you more flexibility, but zoning and acreage requirements still matter.

🐔 Lake Orion Village
Backyard hens may be possible with permits and specific coop and setback requirements. Roosters are not permitted under the rules referenced here.

🐴 Rochester Hills
Animal allowances depend heavily on lot size, with more options available once you reach larger parcels.

The simple rule?

More acreage usually gives you more options, but you still need to check the rules for the exact property.

C***r mill season hits different when you're gluten free. Everyone else grabs a warm donut and you're stuck holding the c***r.

I'm gluten free too, so I put together the spots in and around Northern Oakland County where we actually get to join in, from Lake Orion and Oakland Township to Holly, Rochester Hills and a few worth the drive.

Quick tip: call ahead to make sure gluten-free donuts are available that day.

Save this for your next fall weekend, and send it to the friend who always gets left out of donut runs.

People looking for more space don’t always move far.

Sometimes they just move far enough to change their lifestyle.

Here are five moves I see:

5️⃣ Royal Oak → Oxford + Addison Township
4️⃣ Birmingham → Metamora
3️⃣ Oxford subdivisions → Oxford + Metamora acreage
2️⃣ Rochester → Oakland Township, Addison Township + Oxford
1️⃣ Lake Orion subdivisions → Oxford acreage

The destination may change depending on age, commute, budget, and how much land you want.

But the pattern is usually the same:

Less subdivision. More space.
