Located in the heart of Central Florida, Plant City has a rich history dating back to the mid-1800s. Incorporated in 1885, just 16 years after Florida became a state, the city is named after Henry Bradley Plant, who played a pivotal role in its growth.

Originally known as Ichepucksassa, after a local Indian village, the name was changed to “Cork”by an Irish postmaster due to confusion over its spelling and pronunciation. In 1884, Plant extended the South Florida Railroad into the area, and the town was renamed Plant City the following year in his honor.
