A beautiful home doesn't have to look like a designer came in and replaced everything.
This home started with a builder who offered very limited finish choices—including a lot of gray. Instead of fighting those finishes, the goal was to create a warm, sophisticated foundation around them.
Dark floors helped ground the gray, while comfortable, quality furniture was intentionally kept neutral. That created flexibility to change the personality of the rooms over time simply by changing rugs, pillows, artwork and accessories.
Scale and function were especially important. Every piece needed to fit the room properly, work for everyday life and relate to the spaces around it so the home felt cohesive rather than like a collection of separately decorated rooms.
The inspiration was a little Santa Fe, but never themed Southwest; clean and modern, but still warm and collected; appropriate for a home on a farm, yet with some of the calm and comfort of a really good hotel or spa.
Most importantly, it wasn't about following trends or making the house look like every other professionally decorated home. It was about creating a home that felt personal, comfortable, beautiful and timeless—and knowing where quality was worth investing in and where it wasn't necessary.
That's really what I believe good decorating should do: make your home feel more like you—not more like everyone else.
