but living with that payment every month is a different story.

The buyers who have the smoothest experience usually follow a few simple guidelines:

• Keep housing around 28% of income
• Have an emergency fund ready
• Budget for maintenance (homes always need something)
• Compare multiple mortgage quotes
• Plan to stay at least 5 years
