I remember exactly where I was on September 11, 2001.

I watched the news after the first plane hit the tower, and then watched in horror as the second plane hit the other tower. I don’t think any of us could have understood in that moment how profoundly that day would change our country forever.

After spending a decade living in New York, and with a husband, my boys, and in-laws who are all from New York, September 11 has always carried a deeply personal meaning for our family. I know many people who were personally impacted by that day, and I will never forget the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93, or the families and communities forever changed.

But I also remember what came after: the resilience and strength of New Yorkers, the courage of first responders, and the way Americans came together and stood united when our country needed it most.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost, we honor those who served, and we remember the strength and unity that followed.

I will never forget the impact September 11 had on our country.
