THE SWAMP AT CLEARWATER: MIDDLETOWN RESPONDS! ⚾️🏊‍♂️

After more than 12,000 views in less than 24 hours, Middletown Parks Superintendent Jonathan Helwig reached out about the conditions at Clearwater Fields.

The good news? Middletown has a plan to fix them! Drainage improvements and laser grading are being considered, although the work may not happen until spring.

Big thanks to Jonathan for taking the time to explain the situation and address our concerns! 👏

But there’s a bigger story here…

Did you know these fields were once home to the Clearwater Pool and Cabana Club?

In 2009, Monmouth County awarded Middletown $250,000 toward developing ballfields, with Atlantic Highlands also involved in the project.

Looking at the historic photos alongside today’s flooded fields raises some interesting questions.

What happened to the old swimming pools? How was the land prepared? Could the original construction have contributed to today’s drainage problems?

We don’t have those answers yet, but they’re worth investigating.

I’m glad Middletown is stepping up. Now let’s get these fields fixed, understand what went wrong, and make sure the repairs last!

WELCOME TO RED BANK! NOW WHERE’S THE RIVER?! 😂🏗️

First off, how beautiful is this new “Welcome to Red Bank — On the Navesink River” sign?!

Big props to the Rallo family for this addition to the entrance of our downtown! 👏

I’m loving the improvements they’re making to the old gas station property as part of the Red Bank Gateway project. It’s great seeing an older building getting some love and a new purpose while keeping a little of Red Bank’s character alive.

But then there’s the view across the street… 😂

Rising behind that beautiful new welcome sign is the absolute monstrosity under construction at 176 Riverside Avenue.

And that’s where the irony kicks in.

WELCOME TO RED BANK — ON THE NAVESINK RIVER!

We promise the river is back there somewhere. You just can’t see it behind the building! 🤣

Two very different developments, right across the street from each other. One breathing new life into an old property, the other completely transforming the skyline.

Love the new sign. Love what Rallo is doing with the Gateway property.

But 176 Riverside? Man, that’s a whole lot of building!

WHO’S TAKING CARE OF CLEARWATER FIELDS?! ⚾️💦

I’m standing at Clearwater Fields in Atlantic Highlands, where Middletown Little League plays, and seriously… what is going on here?!

We’ve got standing water on the baseball field, mud on the softball field, and playing surfaces that clearly need some attention.

Here’s where things get interesting.

These fields sit near the Middletown–Atlantic Highlands border, and according to county records, the original development involved both municipalities, with an agreement to share maintenance responsibilities.

Middletown helped develop the fields, Atlantic Highlands contributed to the project, and local youth baseball programs have been using them for years.

So who’s maintaining them TODAY?

I’ve heard Middletown takes care of the fields. I’ve also heard they’re leased. But I haven’t been able to confirm the current agreement or who is responsible for keeping them playable.

And frankly, as a parent with a kid playing baseball here, I shouldn’t need to investigate municipal agreements to figure out why our kids are playing on fields in this condition.

We’ve got a game scheduled on the softball field tonight, and that field needs attention too.

These are kids’ baseball fields. They deserve proper maintenance, safe playing conditions, and a little pride from whoever is responsible.

Middletown? Atlantic Highlands? Little League?

Who’s responsible for Clearwater Fields, and when are we going to get them fixed?

RESORT LIVING COMES TO LONG BRANCH 🌊🏗️

There’s a major new oceanfront residential development taking shape in Long Branch, and it’s bringing a whole new level of resort-style living to the Jersey Shore.

Atlantic Club Residences is designed around the idea of having the beach, luxury residences, and resort-style amenities all in one place.

We’re talking ocean views, a pool, gathering spaces, and the kind of atmosphere you’d normally associate with a vacation destination — except this is designed to be home.

And that’s what makes this project interesting.

Long Branch has already undergone an incredible transformation over the past couple of decades, particularly around Pier Village. Now developments like Atlantic Club Residences are continuing to reshape what year-round coastal living can look like.

Of course, there’s a difference between architectural renderings and the finished product, and that’s why I enjoy following these projects as they take shape.

Would you want to live somewhere that feels like a resort every day? Or do you prefer the old-school Jersey Shore?

WAIT A MINUTE… SOMETHING’S NOT ADDING UP. 🍟😂

So I’m at McDonald’s and notice a sign letting customers know that Braille menus are available.

Awesome. Accessibility matters.

But then I take a closer look at the sign…

THE WHOLE THING IS FLAT. 😭

Not a raised dot in sight.

Now, obviously, having Braille menus available is a good thing. But there’s something unintentionally hilarious about a sign advertising Braille that you can’t actually read by touch.

I have questions, McDonald’s. 😂

Am I the only one who sees the irony here?

LITTLE ANDY’S BRINGS BURGERS TO ANDERSON’S MARKET! 🍔

There’s something new cooking at Anderson’s Market in Red Bank!

Little Andy’s is bringing smash burgers to the market, and I had to get a first look at what they’re serving up.

These aren’t your big, thick, overloaded burgers. They’re smashed thin, with those crispy edges, juicy patties, and plenty of flavor.

A little messy? Absolutely. 😂

But what surprised me was how light they were while still being really satisfying.

You know those burgers that leave you feeling like you need a nap afterward? This wasn’t one of them.

And watching them make it fresh right in front of you makes it even better.

Little Andy’s is a welcome addition to Anderson’s Market!

🇮🇹 The forgotten history behind Columbus Day.

In 1891, eleven Italians were lynched in New Orleans, setting off an international diplomatic crisis between Italy and the United States.

Five months later, my own family became entangled in a murder investigation in Red Bank, NJ. My ancestor Giuseppe Setaro, identified in newspapers as Joe Zettero, was wanted for the murder of Thomas Davron. Other Italians were detained, and the Italian Association of New York sent attorney James Oliver to represent them.

In December 1891, President Benjamin Harrison condemned the New Orleans massacre. The following year, he proclaimed a national Columbus Day celebration, partly as an effort to improve relations with Italy.

That celebration also introduced the Pledge of Allegiance to American schoolchildren.

And in 1893, its author, Francis Bellamy, led a historic recitation right here at Twin Lights in Highlands, NJ.

For me, Columbus Day is an opportunity to remember the Italian immigrants who came here, the discrimination they faced, and the communities they helped build.

Our local history is connected to a much bigger American story.

CARM’S FARM: THE SOUL OF THE SEASON 🎃🍂

Every farm has pumpkins. But some places have a way of making fall feel like fall.

Carm’s Farm in Colts Neck is one of those places.

The kids running around, the animals, the familiar sights and sounds, and those little moments that make a trip to the farm something more than just picking out a pumpkin.

It’s the kind of place where traditions are made, and where coming back year after year becomes part of the season itself.

There’s something about these old-fashioned fall experiences that never really gets old. Especially when you get to see them through the eyes of your kids.

And sometimes the best part isn’t anything you planned to do. It’s just being there.

RED BANK’S FOODTOWN SELLS FOR $13.5 MILLION 🏗️

Another major piece of Red Bank real estate is changing hands, and it could set off a chain reaction involving more than one property.

The former Foodtown property has sold for $13.5 million, with Genesis Health Clubs purchasing the site for the planned relocation of the Atlantic Club.

That potential move could open up the Atlantic Club’s current property for an entirely different use.

Local developer Roger Mumford has proposed townhomes for that location, but here’s the important distinction:

The townhome development has NOT been approved.

The concept remains subject to municipal review, with a rehabilitation study being considered as an early step in the planning process.

So while the Foodtown sale is a completed real estate transaction, what ultimately happens with the Atlantic Club property is still an unfolding story.

It’s another example of how one property changing hands can potentially reshape multiple parts of Red Bank.

And as always, there’s a big difference between what’s been sold, what’s being proposed, and what’s actually been approved.

OKTOBERFEST RETURNS TO RED BANK! 🍻🥨🇩🇪

Get ready, Red Bank! Oktoberfest is back tomorrow, Saturday, October 10!

Live music, cold b**r, great food, and plenty of reasons to spend a fall Saturday right here in downtown Red Bank.

One of those events where you can grab a drink, run into a few familiar faces, listen to some music, and just enjoy the atmosphere.

And judging by last year’s festivities, there’s going to be plenty of fun to go around! 😂🍻
