THE TILTONS SAVE ME AGAIN 🔧

About a month ago, my car caught fire on Route 34.

Fred Tilton happened to be driving by in his Tilton Plumbing truck. He stopped, helped shut down traffic and helped me get out of a pretty scary situation.

He didn’t know me. He just stopped to help.

Fast forward to today: I needed some emergency plumbing work done at the house in Red Bank — and I knew exactly who I wanted to call.

There are a lot of ways to “shop local.” Sometimes it’s also about remembering the people who showed up for you when they didn’t have to.

So today, the Tiltons are saving me again. 😂

Full circle. Pay it forward. Support the people who support their community.

🍦 WE ALL SCREAM FOR SPRINGSTEEN’S ICE CREAM

Since 1952, Jersey Freeze has been a Freehold institution — and famously one of Bruce Springsteen’s favorite stops for ice cream.

So while I was out exploring Freehold, there was really only one thing to do. Pull over, grab a cone, and see what all the fuss is about.

And yeah… I get it. 🍦😂

Sometimes the best Jersey Shore stories are the ones you can eat.

What’s YOUR old-school Jersey ice cream spot?

This debate comes up in my comments ALL the time.

Growing up around Red Bank, most people I knew—including my family—pronounced the Navesink River one way, while I’ve always heard plenty of people pronounce Navesink, the Middletown area, differently.

And depending on where you grew up in Monmouth County, I’m pretty sure you’re about to tell me I’m completely wrong. 😂

So settle it:

How do YOU pronounce Navesink—and what town are you from?

Oh yeah… there’s also a groundhog. Don’t feed him. 😂

Long August days at the Jersey Shore. ☀️

When the sun hangs a little lower, the shadows stretch a little longer, and you start realizing there aren’t many of these days left.

So you stay a little later.
Walk a little slower.
And try to remember exactly what summer felt like.

The real Jersey Shore. ❤️

A month ago, my car caught on fire. 🔥

What followed was a month of test drives, dealerships, spreadsheets, second guessing myself and trying to figure out what the hell I actually wanted to drive next.

I thought I was looking for the perfect family SUV.

Turns out, I was looking for the perfect car for me.

And every time I walked onto a lot, I kept coming back to this one.

So… meet the newest member of the Hidden Monmouth crew: my 2023 Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition. 🩶

I have a feeling we’re going to find some pretty interesting places together.

Now the fun begins. 🚗💨 Mazda USA

CHEESE ➡️ BONES 🧀🦴

Another change coming to Broad Street.

The former Fourchette location at 132 Broad Street is becoming OsteoStrong Red Bank, a wellness studio focused on supporting stronger bones, muscles and joints through short, low-impact sessions.

The windows are covered, construction is underway, and according to the sign, they’re planning to open this fall.

Anybody ever tried OsteoStrong before?

Nothing beats Nagle’s. 🍳💊☕️

Nagle’s Apothecary is back open in Ocean Grove, and walking through those doors still feels like stepping into another era.

The old pharmacy cases. The signs. The luncheonette atmosphere. The historic photos and menus. And, thankfully, a breakfast that absolutely delivers.

There are plenty of places at the Jersey Shore that try to create an old-school vibe. Nagle’s doesn’t have to try. It actually is old school.

Places like this are getting harder and harder to find — which makes seeing Nagle’s alive again that much better.

👇 What other Jersey Shore spot still feels like you’re stepping back in time? I want to go.

So… did the Car Saga finally end? 🚗👀

Meet AJ.

His real name is Aaron Ramos, but everybody calls him AJ. He’s 21 years old, originally from Sayreville, recently moved back to New Jersey after living in Florida, and actually went to school for automotive work — so the kid knows cars.

And after the MONTH I’ve had shopping for one, there’s something I absolutely love about how this story ended.

I met a LOT of car salesmen along the way. 😂 Some were great. Some had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Some tried every old-school car-sales trick in the book. And there were a couple places where I couldn’t get out the door fast enough.

Then I met this 21-year-old kid.

No bu****it. No games. Just a young guy trying to get himself established, who knew the car and treated me right.

And after everything…

AJ was the one who got the sale. 🤝

I’m not showing you the dealership yet.

And I’m definitely not showing you the car. 😏

But if you’ve been following this ridiculous saga from the beginning…

👇 WHAT DO YOU THINK I BOUGHT?

Drop the MAKE + MODEL below.

The Car Saga finale is next. 🚗🏁

DANNY’S DARK NO MORE 👀

Something is finally happening at the former Danny’s Steak House on Bridge Avenue.

The longtime Red Bank institution has been closed for more than a year. Last May, even the iconic Danny’s sign came down. Red Bank Green reported at the time that the property’s liquor license had been transferred to an LLC associated with Metrovation East, although the company said it had no specific plan for the license.

Now there’s some serious activity.

This morning I caught crews working inside, the storefront facade stripped back, and what appears to be a substantial interior clean-out/gut underway.

For a place that was such a fixture of Red Bank’s West Side for so many years, seeing the building stripped down like this is pretty wild.

So…what’s coming next at Danny’s? 👀

🙏 Sometimes Jesus needs a hand.

Spotted the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue at St. Mary’s in New Monmouth missing part of his left arm.

Not sure what happened here — weather, age, damage, or something else — but the hand was lying out in the grass a few feet away.

So… figured I’d lend Jesus a hand and put his hand back where it belonged. 😂

Hopefully someone can get him properly repaired soon.
