Buying a home is one of those things where people falsely equate access to information as being the same thing as expertise.

For those people, the logic follows like this, “If listings are all online, and if contracts can be explained using AI, and if the seller’s agent can open the door, then is a buyer’s agent even a necessary part of the process?”

The transaction process is complicated, and much more complex than it appears looking from the outside-in. This post addresses a few of the more common assumptions behind FSBO decisions, and why expectations fall short due to uninformed logic.

These days, as it gets harder to make a dollar stretch, it’s understandable for sellers to want to net as much as they can, even going so far as to forgo signing with a listing agent. And between online platforms and access to public data, sellers can get the wrong impression that they can do the transaction process themselves.

While technically you can, the question becomes whether that route produces the best outcome for you. However, most of the work in the transaction happens in negotiation and ex*****on of the contract’s details, and that’s the crossroads that makes transaction experience shine most.
