Something I've noticed showing houses around here.
The homes built before about 1960 were framed with old-growth lumber. A 2x4 from 1940 is actually two inches by four inches, and the wood is denser than anything you can buy today.
It's why those houses feel solid when you walk in, and it's why they're often harder to remodel β nothing is standard anymore.
Not saying older is better. Old wiring and old plumbing are real costs. But there's a reason people fall in love with those places.
