What if architecture existed somewhere between reality and imagination?

Oslo-based artist and architect Per Carlsen creates speculative landscapes where architecture becomes an exploration of scale, mass, atmosphere, and human experience.

Drawing from Brutalism, infrastructure, surrealism, painting, illustration, and 3D modeling, Carlsen places monumental concrete structures, towers, and megastructures into vast landscapes. Often, a single human figure provides the only reference point—making these structures feel enormous, isolated, and almost otherworldly.

What I find fascinating is how his work removes architecture from its everyday context. Concrete becomes sculpture. Infrastructure becomes landscape. And buildings become a way to explore permanence, isolation, proportion, and human occupation.

For anyone who loves Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, contemporary, and architecturally significant homes, this is a reminder that great architecture isn’t simply about square footage—it’s about how a space makes you feel.

WHAT IF A CITY COULD GROW LIKE A LIVING ORGANISM?

In 1963, Japanese architect Kenzo Tange proposed a radical vision for Tokyo’s Tsukiji District—one that became a defining example of Metabolist architecture.

Tange’s masterplan responded to post-war Japan’s explosive population growth and rapid urbanization with a futuristic idea: instead of designing a city as something fixed and permanent, create a flexible framework that could expand, adapt, and evolve over time.

The concept incorporated modular, interconnected structures designed for organic growth—a powerful vision that challenged traditional ideas about how cities should function.
