Although we may share backyard BBQs and the long weekend with family and friends, this day is really about the empty chairs at those tables. It’s about the heavy silence of a folded flag placed in the hands of a grieving parent, spouse, or child. It’s about the brave men and women who never made it back to the neighborhoods they loved—not because they wanted to leave, but because they chose to protect something bigger than themselves.

Every single day, we move through freedoms we take for granted. The peace to raise our families, build our businesses, and root ourselves in a safe community isn’t an accident. It was bought and paid for by people whose names we may never know.

To every Gold Star family in our community: We see you. We carry this grief and gratitude alongside you today. 🇺🇸

This morning in our Christensen Realty Group’s team meeting, our Book Club discussion on Extreme Ownership sparked something powerful. We explored the idea of simplification—not just as a concept, but as a catalyst for real progress. The question presented was: What can we simplify in our personal lives and in our business to move forward more effectively?

It got me (Deb) thinking about this season in particular. With only two weeks until Christmas and with all the noise and busyness that December brings, there’s something profound about choosing simplicity. That sign in the photo says it perfectly: “Sometimes the best Christmas present is presence.”

So I’m curious—is there something you’ll simplify to enable you to be truly present this season?
