In 1887, San Diego was in the middle of one of the biggest booms in its history. Fueled by the arrival of the railroad just two years earlier, the city’s population exploded from only a few thousand residents to an estimated 30,000–40,000 people. New homes, businesses, hotels, and neighborhoods seemed to appear overnight as investors poured into the city believing San Diego would become the dominant port and commercial center of the West Coast.

The downtown skyline shown here reflects that era of rapid growth and optimism. In 1887, land values were skyrocketing, construction was happening across the city, and San Diego was being marketed nationwide as the “Booming Metropolis of the Southwest.” While the real estate frenzy would collapse the following year, many of the foundations of modern San Diego were laid during this remarkable period of growth.

The Padres new bar venue concept is close enough to NP that a Tatis bomb from our roof top could hit it - Sounds like it will be a fun place!!!

The San Diego Padres are expanding their presence beyond the ballpark with the opening of Diamond Room, a new 50-seat, upscale cocktail lounge set to debut Friday just outside Petco Park. The venue takes over the former City Tacos location near Gallagher Square, marking another step in the team’s effort to activate the surrounding neighborhood year-round.
