Finally, the plumbing interior and exterior rough in stage is done to the tune of $4.6k thanks to Bullgator Plumbing. All cabins have water shutoffs and sewer is hooked up. Electrical rough in is a bit more time consuming and complex so it will take a month or more to finish up. Electrical utilities (Duke Energy) will need to set a new pole and trench for underground wiring to the house that will start in a little over a month for a cost of $4.4k.

Electrical rough in is in progress for the bedrooms this week and next. Had to change some outlet locations and lighting fixtures due to build unknowns but that’s part of building out of the box. Duke Energy will be installing a new pole in the front of the property in the coming weeks.

The septic system passed inspection and has been covered over. Cost for 900 gallon plastic tank and regular type drainfield was $5,500 thru Giffin Enterprises (they also did an amazing job on site prep, house pad and 160 ft of shell rock driveway for a total of $18,300). Now onto electrical and plumbing rough in!

The septic system is going in this week. Thanks to Giffin Enterprises! They were kind enough to excavate some areas for the plumbing and electrical hook ups while there.

The framing inspection passed! Thanks to Sonny Days Carpentry for an awesome job. Cost for framing labor for 16 days was $15,420. This does not include all the supplies needed or the help we had from teenagers apprentices doing the furring.

The siding is up on the main cabin and the framing done by Sonny Days Carpentry comes to its last few days. Once the framing is done I will take a good set of pictures.

Edit Post: Roofing was completed on the bedrooms in 2 days and the following weekend the main cabin was completed in 1.5 days with Oscar’s roofing team for $4k, not including supplies and equipment. They did an amazing job! The superspan metal sheets, roofing screws, butyl tape, Prodex insulation, foam inserts and rubber edging come with the Arched Cabin Kit.
Day 20 and the bedrooms have a roof and are almost completely dried in. This is definitely faster than regular construction!

This page is a culmination of what started many years ago with the page The Merrylanders Food Forest when we moved to Sebring from the city looking for a sustainable life. What we found is that a sustainable life is found within a local community and learning new things is imperative.
