Today I got to give my dad the best birthday gift ever: tickets to the 2026 World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.

When I was little we didn’t get to go to the 1994 World Cup games in the United States. I remember telling myself back then: “When I’m older, if the World Cup ever comes back, I’m taking my dad.”

Today that promise came true. We’re going to our home country, our home state, to Estadio Akron—home of Chivas, our favorite team, but now to experience a World Cup in person. And the cherry on top? My son gets to come with us. Three generations experiencing the World Cup together.
