3 things I wish I knew before my first rental property:

1️⃣ Screen tenants more thoroughly.

Don’t rush the background, credit, income, and rental history checks just because you want someone in the property.

2️⃣ Don’t underprice your rent.

Price it at market value instead of dropping the price because you’re anxious about vacancy.

A little patience can save you from being locked into below-market rent for an entire lease.

3️⃣ Document EVERYTHING at move-in.

Take photos and videos and complete a full move-in inspection with the tenant.

Have them acknowledge the condition so you have something to compare against when they move out.

Rental properties can be a great way to build wealth.

But you WILL learn some lessons along the way.

My journey of faith has been a long and interesting one. Since I was raised young in a Jewish synagogue to falling away, to finding Christ, falling away, jumping around churches, falling away again, I finally came to where I am today. I was baptized and confirmed July 18 into the Catholic Church.

It has been an honor and a remarkable experience coming into a church I used to be vehemently against. Through being open and years of study, I’ve found Catholicism to have an incredible foundation of truth and community, and especially traditions that connect us back to the time of Christ.

I’m grateful for my wife for joining me in this journey and her getting confirmed as well. Attending mass weekly and the Eucharist is especially a unique experience and one that unifies us.

I’m grateful for all my friends and family who have helped laid a foundation for me all these years and brought me to where I am today in my walk with God.
