It’s Not Supposed To Do That ®️– Episode 220

This is the stuff that looks fine… until someone actually looks.
Some issues are minor. Some are serious. And some have been “like that for years.”

If you’ve ever looked at something in your house and thought, “that doesn’t look right…” — you’re probably correct.

📲 See something questionable?
Post it to your story, tag .edge.inspect, and use — I may feature it in an upcoming episode.

Tiny termites. Massive bills.
Subterranean termites come from the ground. Formosans come from the depths of hell with a bigger crew and an appetite for your house. Both love moisture, wood, and homeowners that skip inspections.

They don’t sleep. They don’t quit. They just eat your equity.

Hidden danger.

We all know how dangerous electricity can be. That’s why the electrical system is one of the most important areas for an inspector to pay close attention to.

Loose connections, overheating, improper breakers, double-tapped wires, open knockouts, and unsafe repairs can all create serious shock and fire hazards.

A lot of these problems are hidden inside the panel where most people never look. Small defects here can become major safety issues.

Right place. Right time.

I don’t get to witness the stressing process very often. These guys were in and out in maybe 10 minutes. But I happened to be there at the right time and was able to capture it on video for you.

In our area, most slab foundations are built with post-tension cables. But what happens to all those cables sticking out of the edge of the foundation after the pour?

This is the process.

It’s honestly crazy how often we find overly long dryer vent runs during pre-drywall inspections. This usually comes down to poor planning and not understanding how the system is supposed to work.

Those dryer duct length limits exist for a reason. Longer runs and too many turns can restrict airflow, trap lint, reduce performance, and increase fire risk.

Small detail. Big safety issue.

It just keeps getting worse
Homes are expensive. Buyers should expect quality for what they’re paying for.

If the house still isn’t ready when the inspector arrives, what value is the buyer really getting?

Too many builders are rushing the job, cutting corners on quality, and showing little respect for the money buyers spend on inspections… or the inspector’s time.

Free Sample QR at the end!

Sashco makes some of the best sealant products out there.

Big Stretch and Lexel get a lot of attention for good reason, but they also offer a full lineup of products for concrete, mortar, trim, siding, and other jobsite needs.

If you’re a pro, you need to try them.

Not a good look.

I enjoy a cold beer as much as the next guy… but when I see empty beer bottles scattered around a job site AND subpar craftsmanship everywhere I look, it starts connecting dots nobody wants connected.

If you can’t clean up the bottles, I’m probably not trusting the details hidden behind the drywall either.

Little things usually point to bigger problems.
