Does anybody actually care?
None of these are earth-shattering problems. They’re just the kind of things we find way too often on new construction.

And that’s what gets me.

These aren’t complicated problems. They’re not unusual. They’re basic details that should’ve been caught before the house ever made it this far.

One by one, maybe they’re not a huge deal. But when you start seeing enough of them, you have to wonder…

Does anybody actually care?

What Does a Home Inspector Actually Check?

This is just a quick look at a few of the things we check during a home inspection—including testing for gas leaks and checking water pressure.

But that raises a bigger question: What happens when the inspector doesn’t find much at all? Is no news actually good news?

This clip comes from our full video, “Is No News Actually Good News?” Watch the full video to see what a thorough home inspection really looks like—and why a short report doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.

Is no news actually good news? 👀

If your home inspector only finds a few issues, does that mean they didn’t look hard enough?

Not necessarily.

A thorough home inspection isn’t about finding the most defects. It’s about checking the systems that matter, looking in places most homeowners never go, identifying safety concerns, and using the right tools to evaluate the home.

Sometimes, after all of that… there just isn’t much wrong.

Although, little sidenote: at Texas Edge, we’ve never actually found a house with NOTHING wrong. 😂

But fewer problems? That’s something worth celebrating.

The lowest bidder can cost you.

Sometimes we come across some absolute outdoor kitchen nightmares.

It blows my mind what some people are willing to install and call “professional work.” You look at it and seriously wonder if the person who built it had any idea what they were doing.

I understand wanting to save money, but choosing the lowest bidder can get expensive fast—especially when poor workmanship turns into a potential safety hazard.

Cheap work isn’t always cheap in the end.

🚨 It’s Not Supposed To Do That®️ – Episode 233

Some problems are obvious. Others hide in plain sight until someone knows what to look for.

That’s why home inspections matter. We find the things most people walk right past—before they become bigger, more expensive problems.

👀 Have you spotted something around your house that just doesn’t seem right?

📲 Post it to your story, tag Matt Brading, and use . I may feature it in an upcoming episode!

A builder actually thought this was acceptable…

As home inspectors, we’re really not there to nitpick cosmetic issues. That’s what your blue tape walk-through is for.

We’re focused on the things that function, affect safety, or could cost you money later. We’re crawling into the places you probably wouldn’t go and looking for things most buyers wouldn’t even know to look for.

But every once in a while…

You come across something that may technically be “cosmetic,” but it’s so bad you just can’t ignore it.

Damaged walls. Damaged baseboards. And workmanship that somehow made it all the way to the finish line looking like this.

At some point, somebody looked at this and said, “Yep. That’ll do.”

The builder should be embarrassed to hand a brand-new house over in this condition.
