Don & Patty
Backstory:
Tj Snider called me a little over a year ago and connected me with his grandparents. Tj and his wife Haleigh are past clients of mine from 2017-2018. When I called to see how I could help, Patty said they weren’t interested but would reach out if something changed.
Fast forward a year later to February, I get a call from Don & Patty’s daughter Angel. She told me that Tj had told her and her parents that I might be able to help sell their home. We scheduled an appointment and got a game plan together. I wasn’t expecting what came next…
Meeting Don and Patty goes down as one of the most meaningful connections I’ve made this year. Both of them gave me their trust, listened to my advice and were shocked when I gave my opinion of list price. Don told me today he thought they would be able to list around $49k… we listed for $85k. Here is the best part… as much as they claim I was a blessing to them during this process, THEY have been a blessing to me.
During the listing appointment, Don shared a little bit of his story and the story of how he met his wife Patty. He said he was an entertainer, walked into a bar that Patty owned at the time and he heard her sing… later they would play packman as a date and Don recalls knowing that Patty would be his wife. They went on to record together, raise a family and relocate to Merriam Woods, MO. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Don bought Patty a packman arcade game which sat in their living room and they played like they used to. (Patty is the QUEEN of packman… I hear no one can beat her).
We loaded up on a golf cart and looked around at the property lines. Don shared his story about finding God in a little local church which he would later become the pastor of. I’ll save you the details, but Don didn’t know the exact conversation we had that day is exactly what my heart needed to hear.
Don DOES NOT let anything get him down. He’s in his upper 80s, battling cancer and is receiving chemo regularly. His focus is on taking care of his family, honoring God and spreading joy to others. You wouldn’t know the mountains he has faced unless you sat down with him and asked.
Patty ALWAYS greets you with a smile. She’s soft spoken, kind, generous and trusting. One of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Not one negative word was spoken. She loves her family and is quick to talk about her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
The biggest thing that stuck out to me was the love this family shares. From sharing stories of how Don & Patty met, the family they raised, seeing family show up when there was a need was truly inspirational. Here are some examples of that:
Tj heard they needed a new roof… Don said he wouldn’t even let him pay for it, but Tj put a roof on his grandpa’s house.
Angel (their daughter) helped her parents clean, organize, pack and move.
Cole (their grandson) heard they were moving and brought trailers down and helped them move so his grandparents didn’t have to hire movers.
I’m blown away by this family. I’m inspired by the love they have for each other. I’m so honored and blessed to have been chosen by this family to play a small part in their life story. Walking away from the closing table, after their pictures I got in my truck and tears filled my eyes. This is what it’s about.
Don & Patty, Tj & Haleigh, Angel & Cole, I cannot thank you enough. I’m so grateful for that call and that I got to witness this process. Many blessings to all of you! Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
